The artist has donated the entirety of his £25,000 award prize money to the trust for venues, which functions to protect the Britain's small concert spaces.

Fender was awarded the award on mid-October as his new release his work was named the outstanding release of the past year.

He has decided to hand the money over to the MVT, in appreciation of the vital role small stages fulfilled in his initial steps.

"I personally would not have achieved this success if it weren't for all the gigs I performed around the area, and further afield, when I was beginning," stated Sam Fender. "These locations are renowned, but they are facing challenges."

From early 2023 onward, at least 150 of these locations have permanently closed – roughly 16% of the whole industry in the UK.

Over the past year, well-known musicians including Pulp, Coldplay, Katy Perry and Sheeran have all aided the MVT in its efforts to help venues survive, by applying a modest fee to their ticket costs, which goes to help local stages.

Sam Fender also joined in, raising over £100k on his live tour to assist numerous local spots across the UK.

The money supported venues that were facing imminent closure due to challenges caused by water damage, fires and personal losses, as well as regulatory hurdles, legal disputes and noise complaints.

Additional spaces obtained monetary aid in upgrading amenities and sound and lighting systems that positively impacted musicians and concertgoers.

"The notion that revenue from performances in large arenas supports the independent spots, where it all starts for musicians like me, is just sensible," Sam Fender has stated.

He is far from the only musician to give his honor prize money to good deeds.

Back when Pulp earned the trophy in 1996 for their release the album, vocalist Cocker announced that the act would donate their winnings to the charity War Child.

That year, rapper and singer she shared her prize among multiple organizations, including the children's charity and a Sickle Cell organization.

"And I donated a grand to Highgate Newtown, to their classes, because I did gymnastics when I was growing up and they required better apparatus," Ms Dynamite told a publication.

Two years ago, Ezra Collective donated their funds to the community center that nurtured their group, as well as other grassroots music organisations.

Also 1994 winners the group gave their winnings to a charity for MS after a friend was identified with the illness.

"The victory was ample," stated artist Small. "The prize was the extra but we could do without the cherry, because we had the cake. So our victory affected another person's life."

In the past week, the trust announced it had saved a couple of grassroots venues in that region, by placing them under public stewardship.

The Joiners in that area and the other in the city were purchased under the Own Our Venues scheme, which is backed by Arts Council England and enthusiasts who acquire "stakes" in the properties.
